az ballroomBallroom Dance Lesson Tips for Ladies

Ladies, ladies, ladies… are there any of you out there who do not LOVE to dance? OK, maybe you would like to take a few ballroom dance lessons first before heading out to the social dance floor so you can really shine, but for the most part, you just want to get out there and move. And why not? Ballroom dancing lifts your spirits, helps free your mind from worries and has numerous health benefits too! We say just get out there and dance! But before we get too carried away, let’s lay down a few ground rules regarding ballroom dancing and ladies’ roles on the dance floor. Here are 3 useful tips that may make your ballroom dance experiences more fun at the next wedding you attend or your date night out with someone special.
1.Ladies, let him lead! Allow your man to sweep you off your feet, or at least give him a chance to try. He took to out Salsa dancing to impress you and to be “the man” out on that dance floor, and here you are spinning yourself! Stand down and let your guy do his thing. This is your chance to let go and play submissive. How often do you get to do that in your everyday life? If you have a family and/or a career, the answer may be never. When going out social dancing, guys really do want to be in charge. They want to show you their Swing dance moves and Two Step you around the dance floor to put a big smile on your face. When you begin to take over, you are saying to them that they are incompetent. This will not only deflate his ego, but it will discourage him from wanting to become a great social ballroom dancer- two things you don’t want to happen.

2.Ladies, keep your eyes on him! It is so easy to get dizzy with all of the fun and exciting spins that are involved in popular dances like Cha Cha and Country dancing. When he turns you, keep your eyes on your partner and you will maintain your balance. In return, he will feel more confident in his ability to lead and you will both feel more connected.

3.When going Swing, Country or Latin dancing, wear good shoes. Go for comfort and choose shoes that will stay on your feet while your dancing and keep you on the dance floor all night long. Avoid flip flops no matter what kind of dancing you plan to do as you are an easier target for getting stepped on by beginner ballroom dancers (most people). Also steer clear of high heels that may be too hard to walk in let alone dance in. It’s just not worth spraining an ankle and missing out on future dance opportunities.
