Moms, Make Time for You With Dance Lessons!

happy couple ballroom dancing in ArizonaValley moms – are you feeling burnt out? Being a mom is a big job. It isn’t just multitasking, it is megatasking – you play the role of chauffeur, nurse, teacher, manager, chef, housekeeper… the list goes on! It is very easy to put the needs and wants of your family before your own, but this can lead to “mommy burnout”. Some things that burnt out moms can feel are physical and/or emotional exhaustion or illness, cynicism about their situation, a sense of powerlessness and hopelessness, a lack of meaning or personal accomplishment in their work, and a general feeling of being disengaged and uninterested in life. While your situation can make you feel like there is no end in sight, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel! You can take action and feel better with these 5 simple tasks:

1. Make a list of everything you accomplished in a 48 hour period. Include everything you have done for your family, yourself, or your home and you might be surprised at just how much you get done! Moms can sometimes be unrealistic in their expectations of themselves, which can lead to doing too much and spreading themselves thin. If you think about how much you can actually accomplish in 48 hours, the results might surprise you!

2. Get treatment for depression. Depression can be a primary culprit for “mommy burnout”, and it is totally okay to acknowledge that fact. If you think depression may be affecting you and our family, look into treatment options and see what you can do for yourself!

3. Take care of your body and soul. It is crucial that you take time to take care of yourself, especially as busy as you are! Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eat well, exercise, and drink plenty of water. You have probably heard these suggestions time and again, but they truly make a big difference in how you feel!

Another great solution is finding a fulfilling hobby just for you, or even just for you and your spouse.  Learning something new like playing an instrument is fun, but have you considered social ballroom dancing? Dancing can provide respite for your mind and soul and distract you from the daily grind, if only for an hour. Social dance lessons in Country Two Step, Salsa or Swing can help you to forget about your daily to-do’s and remind yourself of how important it is to give back to you. Connecting with others, getting fit and finding a positive outlet for yourself are just a few of the many benefits that social ballroom dancing has to offer.
