istock_000005697257smallThe last thing you should have to worry about when planning your wedding is your first dance as husband and wife. It is easy to get caught up in all of the wedding planning and forget some last minute details, such as the first dance that you will have as a married couple. To help ease the stress that may be surrounding this special part of your wedding, here are a few tips and ideas to get you started in planning your first dance.

One thing you will need to do is plan out is the vision you have for your first dance. To help you determine what type of dance you would like to do, whether it is fast, slow, romantic, or fun, you can pick out your song choice for your first dance. Pick something that the both of you like and are comfortable with, as it will be a long lasting memory. The song that you choose for your first dance will help you set the tone for the remainder of your wedding reception and is a way to let each other, and everyone else, know how you two feel about each other and what kind of relationship you have.

Next, it will be helpful to decide if you would like to prepare a dance for the parents of the bride and groom. Honor dances, as they are called, are a superb way to highlight and show gratitude to your parents. Do you have a special father/daughter song that you and dad have been listening to since you were little? Or how about a mother/son dance to show thanks for everything that mom has done for you.

Since your first dance represents your families coming together as you are united as husband and wife, you probably should not go onto the dance floor and plan to sway back and forth. If you record a video of your wedding reception, most likely you are not going to want to watch yourself bobbing along on the dance floor with your new spouse. So the last tip, or piece of advice, that we will leave you with is to come visit us for help with preparing your first dance customized just for you! You will leave a lasting memory in the minds and hearts of your guests and have a keepsake to treasure for a lifetime.

Finally, plan ahead! Learning to dance is a process and we want you to shine on your wedding day. Give yourself at least 3-4 months for a dance that will include style and flair. That way, you will look natural and dance with confidence and poise.
