How to Attract a Man That Can Dance

country western dance lessons near Chandler AZLadies, do you have a “type” when it comes to men? Is he tall, dark and handsome? Is he funny? And most importantly, can he dance? If you’re looking to make a great connection with the guy of your dreams, and social dancing is something that you want to enjoy with your man, there are a few things you can do.

Since dancing is at the top of my list of things I want in my man, I can relate! There’s no point in putting your must-have’s on paper and then sitting back and waiting. Be proactive. Believe me, there are tons of guys out there that love to social dance. Many of them come and take Country, Swing and Salsa dance lessons at our social dance studio every single day. So take the bull by the horns and try out my top three ideas for how to attract a man that can dance.

  1. Set yourself up for success. If you want to meet a man who likes to go out social dancing, start going out to the places where you would like to him to take you. Grab a girlfriend and head over to that Latin dance club where you would love to go Salsa dancing, or the Country bar where you can see him Two Stepping you around the floor, and check out the scene. Putting yourself in the right place is a great way to get the ball rolling in terms of finding a guy that likes to dance. Like I said, they’re out there, so find out for yourself by frequenting local dance venues in your area.
  2. Become a great follower on the dance floor. If you’re looking for more than just a guy who likes to dance, but one that can dance well, chances are, he’s taken dance lessons at some point along the way. Now it’s your turn! Make a wonderful investment in yourself and sign up for beginner’s dance lessons in your favorite style of dance, from Country to Latin and Swing to Tango. Maybe you want to explore all of these fun social dances. Go for it! Dance lessons are a great way to relieve stress and let loose in the middle of your work-week. And who knows, the student learning next to you could be your next dance partner…
  3. Have fun! Of course you never want to appear needy or desperate when you’re single and looking, so go out dancing and enjoy your time with whoever asks you to dance. He may be a novice dancer, but who cares? He’s trying to do his best, so be supportive and relax. He may turn out to be a great man who wants to be a better dancer, which is why he’s going out social dancing too! How great is that! If you end up enjoying each other’s company, there’s always the option of taking dance lessons together.

Keep in mind that the best social dancers generally want to dance with other great dancers, so if     you’re looking for only the best leaders on the dance floor, remember to keep up on your following skills with regular dance lessons. Regardless of the level of dancer you attract, have fun and enjoy yourself. You’re dancing!

Finding a man that loves to go Two Step dancing or Swing dancing on the weekends makes date nights so much more exciting! Dancing is a fun and romantic hobby that you as a couple can enjoy for many years to come, so if you love to dance, why wouldn’t you want to find a guy that enjoys dancing too? Try out my tips and see if they work for you. I’d love your feedback, so feel free to let me know how it goes at [email protected] . Happy dancing!

Engaged Couples, Keep Your Marriage Alive With Dancing

couple's dance lessons near Tempe ArizonaAttention all lovebirds…Congratulations you’re engaged! You’re getting married and there’s lots to do! In preparation for your big day, you’ve begun wearing your matching FitBits, you hike Camelback mountain every Sunday before the football game, and you’re hitting the gym as a duo. That’s wonderful, but there’s one activity that you’re missing in your routine…couple’s social dance lessons!

With couple’s dance lessons in popular styles like Swing, Salsa and Country Two Step dancing, you will be killing two birds with one stone. Not only will you be prepared for your wedding dance, which is a great thing, but you will be investing in each other with a new hobby that will keep you close for a lifetime.

Keeping date nights going even when you’re married is a must, so why not spend your weekends keeping active by going out social dancing? What kind of music do you enjoy listening to? Both Country music and Latin music are huge right now so give Country dance lessons or Salsa lessons a shot and turn your boring date nights into an evening of dance and romance. It’s so much more exciting to get dressed up and go to a Latin dance club or a Country bar and dance the night away than sit in front of a movie screen. Don’t you agree?

Social dancing is also key for couples because it helps tremendously with strengthening your communication. You see, on the dance floor, it takes two individuals to work together for one common goal to feel right. There is one leader (the man) and one follower (the woman) and the way they act and react makes partner dancing an amazing experience, or not. When you take couple’s dance lessons, you can each learn your roles on the dance floor so that you can really enjoy dancing together! It’s a wonderful feeling to experience, and every couple can have it. What’s important is that you get the training you need from your local dance studio so that you get started dancing together on the right foot. (Did you catch my dancing pun?? 🙂 )

A couple that dances together, stays together. I’ve said this for the last 20 years and it’s really true. Make the time to discover how to dance together for your wedding and beyond and see for yourselves what dancing can do for the two of you. Speaking from personal experience, I know that if my husband didn’t dance, I would be missing out on a romantic activity that we could enjoy together on date nights, at holiday parties and at other people’s weddings. Luckily I married a dancer, and you can too, by starting your journey into learning to dance today.

If you live in Phoenix, Arizona, try out Dance FX Studios’ New Student Offer for beginner’s dance lessons for couples. You can get on the fast track to becoming confident social dancers in no time for your wedding and beyond.

Believe me, after creating thousands of confident social dancers over the last 20 years, I can say with assurance that dancing opens doors, lots of them. Need more “math” as proof? Ok, here you go!

  1. Men, you are 64% more likely to attract a hot girl if you can dance. Alright, I just made up this statistic, but the fact is that women are very much attracted to a guy who can dance. First, Swing dancing or Salsa dancing is our chance to get swept off of our feet, so if you’re a great lead, it’s a very exciting thing! We sort of feel like Cinderella, and that’s not only relaxing, but it makes us feel pretty and elegant. Also, we women tend to relate what you can do on the dance floor to other areas of a relationship. If you’ve got the moves, we think it’s sexy and that’s never a bad thing, right? Men who take the time to invest in themselves with social ballroom dance lessons are not just giving to themselves, they are learning a hobby that helps them to connect with the ladies on a more intimate level, and even look cool amongst their friends.
  2. Your buddies are 80% more likely to be jealous of you if you know how to social dance. Yes, another made up stat, but guys, come on, it’s so true! If you’re sitting on the sidelines with a beer while your friend is twirling around the ladies who are smiling from ear to ear, who wishes they could be who? Be the envy of your friends, make those girls happy and have a blast Country dancing, Salsa dancing or Swing dancing-each dance is as fun as the next!
  3. You will burn up to 500 calories in an hour’s time! Now this is a fact. If you’re looking to slim down, Two Step your way into a healthier you by dancing for 8-10 songs straight. The time will fly by and you’ll be getting in shape without even realizing it! Dancing+fun=great physical results! Now that’s something you can take to the bank!

Why it’s Worth Investing in Wedding Dance Lessons

wedding dance classes near Chandler AZAhhh…weddings! When I think of a wedding, the first thing that comes to mind is the amount of money that is forked out to have it be the day of your lives. Is it worth it? Absolutely! How many times on one’s life do we get to tie the knot with our partner in crime? Hopefully just once, so why not make it grand!

There are so many moving parts required for the wedding of your dreams, from the perfect venue to flowers, cake, food, your wedding gown, should I go on?? One investment that many overlook is in preparing for your first dance as a married couple. With Wedding Dance Lessons, you will not only feel great about dancing for your guests, but look amazing too! A gorgeous wedding dance is not just for looks, though. Let me explain…

What many couples may not realize is that learning to dance is a wonderful way to connect with your sweetheart. A solid foundation in your marriage can be developed by doing romantic and fun hobbies together like dancing.  This is why I always say, “A couple that dances together, stays together.” It’s true! 🙂

Not only is social dancing romantic, but for brides and grooms to be, it is especially important that a way to relieve stress is readily available. Wedding planning can be a lot, so how nice would it be to have something relaxing and fun to look forward to throughout your week? Every time you come to one of your dance lessons, you will be discovering a deeper way to communicate, a great way to enjoy quality time together and a fun way to create memories together. Plus, the end result will be a wedding dance that reflects your personalities and style. Very cool!

You may not realize it yet, but your first dance is also a gift to your friends and family. For years to come, they may be talking about how you danced that sexy Salsa or exciting Swing dance. Or maybe they will be brought to tears by your elegant and romantic slow dance that they have replayed in their minds a hundred times. What I’m saying here is don’t underestimate the power of a beautiful dance that your guests will treasure for years to come.

On that note, your wedding dance will set the tone for the rest of your reception. If you’re doing a themed wedding, like Country Chic or Rustic, the ideal first dance can really get your party started. Think about staying within theme when it comes to your dance so that you can tie your entire event together perfectly. For a Cinderella wedding, dance an elegant Waltz. For a Retro-themed wedding, learn to Swing dance and maybe even change into a different outfit to really give them something they won’t soon forget!

With the chance to dance, and learn to dance well, your perfect wedding is at your fingertips. Make your wedding dance one to remember by taking dance lessons at your local ballroom dance studio. Arizona residents can visit us at Dance FX Studios in the Phoenix East Valley for Wedding Dance Lessons. Our Wedding Dance Consultation is a great place to start so we can help you to start your lives together on the right foot.

Top 3 Tips on the Ultimate Wedding Dance

wedding dance lessons near Chandler ArizonaYou’ve chosen the wedding venue of your dreams. It’s amazing! Tuscan chic. Elegant, modern with just the right amount of uniqueness. You found the perfect colors and flowers to match. Even the candelabra centerpieces tie in perfectly. Done with your wedding planning? Not so fast!

What? You haven’t begun learning your first dance yet? Then now is the time to get started. No five minute prom sway, putting your guests in a pre-food coma, will do! For this once-in-a-lifetime special affair, you need the best wedding dance ever! Here are my top three tips on how to have the wedding dance you have always imagined.

  1. Choose the right song. Let’s start with what is going to set the tone for your first dance, song choice. Picking the perfect wedding dance music for your first dance is critical, to say the least. Without being overly dramatic, your first dance as Mr. and Mrs. is kind of important, don’t you think? If executed properly, it may be what your guests remember most about your entire wedding.

On the contrary, have you ever found yourself talking about your cousin’s wedding dance that sucked? The couple rocked back and forth for what seemed to be an eternity! Boring! Make your first dance one to remember by finding songs that not only speak to you on an emotional level, but that reflect who you are as a couple. If you’re a silly, playful couple, maybe a Swing dance would be ideal. For an elegant more traditional look, you could go with a slow dance that will include a few dips and turns. Regardless, now is the time to contact your local ballroom dance studio for Wedding Dance Lessons. No one is born knowing how to partner dance, so to really make an impression on your friends and family, you’ve got to take formal lessons. (By the way, once you learn to dance for your wedding, you will have a few moves that you can use at other people’s weddings, plus a really fun romantic hobby as newlyweds. It’s pretty cool to be able to go out dancing and feel confident. :))

2. Make sure the song length is appropriate.  Now that you have a few song ideas in mind, bring them with you for your Wedding Dance Consultation. Let your professional dance instructor guide you from here. A qualified instructor should be honest with you when helping you narrow down your song options, as well as let you know that a two to two-and-a-half minute wedding dance is plenty long. I have had many a consultation where a bride and groom envisioned a five minute dance showcase.  This is never ideal, and you’d be surprised how long it takes to learn to dance for a straight five minutes! Additionally, your guests may be excited at first, but they will soon be ready to move on to the next thing, so keep your first dance short and sweet so they can treasure your performance.

3. Know your options with your wedding dress. This is a biggie when it comes to wanting something more elaborate for your first dance. If you’re wearing a mermaid gown and you want to do a dance that requires you to glide or move a lot, keep in mind that your dress will cause restrictions. Will you be willing to change into a cocktail gown for your first dance? Maybe not, although some brides love the idea of a “costume change”. Changing outfits can definitely add to the drama or fun of performing a sexy Argentine Tango, for example, or a “kick up your heels” Country Two Step. Just remember that discussing your gown and tux/suit will be important on your consultation so that your dance instructor can tailor your first dance to you.

Leaving your guests with an amazing memory of your perfect wedding dance is a gift that they will surely treasure forever. Learning to dance does not have to be intimidating. In the right studio, you should feel relaxed and excited to discover a new skill that you will use time and again throughout your lives as a married couple. It’s time for you to make that call to your local dance studio and get started in the fun of learning to dance for your big day! Enjoy!

Country dance lessons for adults

Top 3 Things You Never Want to do on Any Social Dance Floor

Country dance lessons for adults near Chandler ArizonaYou have finally gotten the courage to get off of the sidelines and onto the dance floor. Congratulations! This is a huge step!  With popular dances these days like the Country Two Step, Salsa and Swing, there’s just too much fun to be had! It’s your time to discover and explore the excitement of social dancing, as well as some of the etiquette that follows.

Speaking of do’s and don’ts, here is a short list of ways to make your nights at the Country Western bars or Latin dance clubs a big hit. Today I’m going to share my top three “don’ts” of social dancing. Do not…

  1. Take over the entire dance floor. Yes, social dancing is about movement and having fun, but that does NOT mean that you need to be everywhere, all at once. Carving out a small space to dance within is not only thoughtful of others who you will also be sharing the dance floor with, but it is also being mindful of your partner as well. How so? Well gentlemen, a great leader is one that takes care of his partner. In order to do so, you don’t need a ton of space, but you definitely need to be aware of oncoming “traffic” and making sure that you keep her safe from others. She can have a blast Two Stepping in a small space if you’re a great leader. On the other hand, you can fling her around and see if she enjoys what I call bumper dancing. It may seem like fun at first, but you’re not likely to get a second or third dance out of her.
  2. Dance off time with the music. This is a bit tricky. For the untrained dancer, you may not know that you’re even off time with the music in the first place. You may be trying to copy the guy next to you (one of my biggest pet peeves) and decide to Country Swing dance to a Two Step beat. Is this really the end of the world? Well,  for us followers who do enjoy synching up our dances to the music being played, I have to admit that it’s kind of a bummer to dance off time. Guys, in this case, please invest in yourself by signing up for some Private Dance Lessons so that you can truly execute your dances with full effect. It’s just not the same to be doing the wrong dance to the wrong beat.
  3. Forget to have fun! While dancing is an art and a wonderful form of stress relief, romance, and I could go on, you can’t take it too seriously. Please do educate yourself with formal instruction, then go out and play! Salsa dance lessons will give you the freedom to let loose and uncover your sexy side, and Country dance lessons are a great way to kick up your heels after a long week at work, but without actual lessons under your belt, you’re sort of faking it with the best of them. There’s no reason for that, especially when there’s got to be a local dance studio that can help get you started with beginner’s dance lessons, on the basics at the very least.

The process of taking dance lessons is actually quite exciting and rewarding. With formal instruction, you too can become a confident social dancer anywhere you choose to go social dancing.  How fun is that! You can also gain so many of the benefits of social dancing, from improved health to learning a new hobby that you can use for years to come. Enjoy social dancing to the fullest by investing in yourself with beginner’s dance lessons, and following the tips above, of course. Happy dancing! 🙂

Country dancing Tempe Arizona

Stand Tall! Posture Matters.

Country dancing near Tempe ArizonaIn social partner dancing, great posture is everything! When attempting to connect with another person, it’s important to realize that how you hold yourself affects her, and vice versa. With nice posture, you’ll have so many more opportunities on the dance floor that an untrained or unaware dancer might not have. Here are a few ways that your perfect posture will aid you in becoming a confident social dancer.

  1. You’ll be a better leader! By sending clearer signals to your dance partner because you are holding yourself upright, you will be a better leader than most, right off the bat. How nice is that!? Of course, you could go out Country dancing and fling your lady around the floor like I see so many guys do out here in the Arizona Country bars, OR you can stand up tall and really take command as a leader with finesse. Less really can be more! You see, standing up allows you to send very clear and direct signals through your dance frame from you to her. In fact, without standing up straight, you can never ultimately be a great lead, since she will constantly be confused about your intentions. This is not the kind of leader that you want to be, right?
  2. Your balance will improve. With great posture, you will be more in control of your balance, once again making you a better lead or follow on the dance floor. Good balance means that you can be more efficient in your movement and in charge of your awesome dancing experience. Balance is key in turning as well, and who doesn’t love to turn while Salsa, Swing or Two Step dancing?
  3. You’ll lower your risk or shoulder, neck and back injuries. When you pull your shoulders back and tuck in your tailbone, you’ll be properly erect and ready to go, avoiding a chance of injury by holding your body “like a dancer”. A wonderful exercise for beginner social dancers who want to reduce risk of injury is to lean against a wall and bend your knees slightly. Keeping your back flat against the wall, from your shoulders to tailbone, is your focus. From there, try to stay that straight as you step away from the wall, and see if you can maintain that position. That is the posture that you will need for each one of your dances. The key is not to look like a “ballroom” dancer, but to simply hold yourself well so that you can stay safe and have fun dancing. Hunching over is never ideal and will put you in her dance space, which will cause unwanted aches and pains.

Whether you’re Country Western dancing or Salsa dancing, posture is important. With Private Dance Lessons in these and other popular social dances, you will learn how to hold yourself and your partner to enjoy social dancing to the fullest.

If you live here in Phoenix, Arizona with us, stop by and sign up for an Introductory Dance Lesson to discover the fun of social dancing! We will get you started with healthy habits to make you a confident and comfortable social dancer before you know it!

How to Avoid Being a Boring Dance Partner

Country dance lessons near Tempe AZDo you think that you’re boring to dance with, or have you ever encountered a boring dance partner out Salsa dancing or Swing dancing? If so, let’s change that! First, you know you can only control yourself on the dance floor, so if you find yourself thinking “Dang, he/she really doesn’t look like they’re enjoying this Two Step with me”, I can offer some tips on how to make sure that never happens again.

  1. Smile and make eye contact. You know the saying, “Fake it ’til you make it?” When you are showing your dance partner a good time with your eyes and body language, he or she is bound to feel more relaxed and enjoy their time with you. If you’re feeling insecure about your level of dance as compared to theirs, I do not recommend apologizing. Just keep smiling and do your best! Social dancing with others will help you to gauge where you’re at with your dancing, and help you to strive to be better, so challenge yourself and pick a good dancer. Then, once you get her/him in your arms, do your best to keep up and enjoy the ride. Remember, if you need help working on your leading or following skills, Private Dance Lessons at your local social dance studio is the best solution. No one is born knowing how to dance, so get the right information to keep you on track. Your nights out dancing will be more fun every time you head out to that Country bar or Latin dance club with dance lessons under your belt.
  2. Vary your dance moves to keep it interesting. As a beginner Country, Latin or Swing dancer, you will be limited on how many moves you have in your repitoire. That’s natural. Again, Private Dance Instruction will help with new moves, advanced leading/following techniques and even how to stay on the beat with the music so that you can advance from week to week. Everyone starts somewhere so be patient with yourself as you grow in your dancing. You’re not boring, you’re new, and that’s OK!
  3. Stay on time with the music. This may seem tricky if you don’t even think you can hear the music, let alone move your body to it, but it is essential for never ending up on the boring side of the meter.  Dancing with the music is magical, and its value should not be underestimated, so please, ask your dance instructor for lessons on how to hear the beat in any song. It will be a valuable piece of information that you and your future dance partners will treasure. Now ladies, if you hear the beat but your partner doesn’t, please don’t attempt to teach him on the dance floor. That will only make him feel inadequate, which I’m sure is not your intention. For the intermediate/advanced social dancer, play with the rhythm in the music to show her an even more fun time. She will love the feeling and it will certainly shake things up in a good way.

Social dancing, while it may seem less challenging that competitive Ballroom dancing, is actually quite comprehensive. Discovering how to maneuver around a crowded dance floor with loud music, drunk people, and a whole slew of other potentially distracting factors takes time. At Dance FX Studios in the Phoenix East Valley, near Chandler and Tempe, AZ, in Mesa, we can give you all of the pointers that you need to be successful on any social dance floor. With two decades of experience under our belts, you are going to be a confident social dancer in no time after a series of Private Dance Lessons with us.
