Country Dancing is Hot in Arizona!

Country line dancing in ArizonaRewind five to seven years ago…did you ever think that Country dancing would be this huge-especially among the younger generations!? For us dancers, it’s a wonderfully amazing thing! Partner dancing is here to stay, and is not only acceptable for 20-something’s in Arizona, but it’s quite trendy, in fact! At our dance studio in Mesa, Arizona, we receive 25-30 requests weekly…just for Country Two Step and Country Swing dance lessons! That’s pretty incredible, especially considering that other popular dance styles like the Salsa and Bachata are also frontrunners amongst the youth here in the southwest.

Why are so many young people interested in Country dance lessons? That’s a great question! It’s not like Country Western dancing is new in Arizona. On the contrary. In fact, Line Dancing, Two Step dancing and the Western Swing have been around for decades. There are a few reasons why Country dancing has really become popular these days. Let’s take a look…

  1. Country Music is Now Mainstream: With (very attractive and ) cool celebrity Country artists like Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood, Country music has gone from twang to a hot thang! Who wouldn’t want to throw on their daisy dukes or Wranglers and show off to these fun and playful hits?
  2. Girls love to dance! And, since Country music is in…well, you connect the dots. At our dance studio in Mesa, Arizona, we have a ton of single male students who come in specifically to gain confidence on the dance floor…so they can really sweep the ladies off of their feet! Dancing is a fun, healthy and romantic way to a woman’s heart, so why not make a great investment in a cool hobby that you can use for years to come with someone special.
  3. We also get a lot of requests from single guys who want to look better than their friends Country dancing. It’s become a sort of competitive skill that seems to be a sign of who’s cool and who’s not these days. The best guys on any dance floor, Country dancing or not, are those who are mindful of and take care of their dance partners. Guys, please do not rip our arms out on the dance floor. It’s not nearly as fun as it looks, and it is actually harmful us us as followers.

Two Stepping With Style!

Phoenix Country Western Two Step DancingYou’ve heard of two step dancing, and you have decided to take a stab at it, since there are many popular places to two step in the area. Wait a minute—there’s more than one type of two step dancing?! Dance FX offers country two step AND nite club two step! How do you know which one to try first? Why are they both different dances with the same name?
Never fear, although both styles of two step are different, they have many similarities, which means they are both labeled as the same style of dance. But we can give you an idea of the differences so you know exactly which style you’re ready to jump in to!
The broad term “two step” merely defines the construction of steps for the basic. These steps are slow and quick according to how many beats of music they use to execute.The combination of ‘slows’ and ‘quicks’ can vary according to which form of two step you’re doing.
Nite Club Two is a slow, quick, quick timing (S,Q,Q) which has a slightly more bolero dance-style-feeling to it and is less likely to be played to country music. Instead, this more romantic version is typically danced to slower music, which carries more passion through the dance moves. Also known as Disco Two Step or California Two Step (if it wasn’t hard enough with only TWO names!) this two step version works along a horizontal line during the basic step.
The country two step, on the other hand, uses a quick, quick, slow, slow (QQSS) count. This is also seen as the more upbeat, lively version of two step. Country two step can be danced to country music, but is not limited to the music genre. The country two step travels more vertically than the nite club two step, and the country version progresses counterclockwise along the dance floor.
So now you can confidently prepare for your two-stepping excursions! You can learn the style that you are most drawn to, and step out on the right foot!
