If you are a little green to the whole Zumba® phenomenon, Zumba is a fusion of Latin dancing and low impact aerobics. Zumba was created during the 1990s by a dancer and choreographer, Alberto Perez, who happened to forget his aerobics music for class and improvised by using what he had on him. The traditional Latin music he had led him to create a non-traditional aerobics workout for the day, which must have been popular with the Columbian locals as Zumba has spread like a wild-fire.
So you may have noticed that Zumba® started in Columbia and ask; what are some of the reasons why Zumba has become so popular in the United States? There are a few things why this may be, one being the fun music and nonstop movement that creates an engaging environment. Unlike a traditional workout at the gym where you may become bored with the monotonous movements, Zumba offers a variety of movements and challenges that will keep you thinking and entertained.
Another reason for Zumba®’s success is because it is a total body workout of your upper body, lower body, and core. With Zumba, the instructors are able to intensify traditional dance moves, thus increasing bodyweight resistance and interval cardio. Some of the dance moves incorporated into Dance FX Studios’ Zumba classes are inspired by Hip Hop, Salsa, Merengue, Belly Dancing, and other dancing styles as well.
A third reason why Zumba® is so well-liked is because you do not have to be a master in dancing to be able to do it. As long as you keep moving, follow the dance moves to the best of your ability, and have fun, you are likely to shed some fat. What could be a better way of working out instead of having fun? If you would like to try out your hand at Zumba®, Dance FX Studios in Mesa, AZ (located just off the 101 highway) holds Zumba classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6PM and on Saturdays at 10AM.
