Can you be truly committed to a healthy lifestyle with adequate exercise if you hate cardio? Well, “hate” might be a strong word, but I’ve never been the biggest fan of cardio exercise, especially if it came in the form of running. I never considered dancing a form of exercise, but when I first tried Zumba, I was completely shocked at how sore my body was the next day. My idea of a workout was having a good 30-minute cardio consisting of either running, biking or elliptical. Throw in some lap swimming or kick boxing for good measure. Compared to the cardio portion of Fitness Boot Camp, I can say that Zumba is certainly more fun and if you are really good at Zumba, you’d be amazing at dancing in a Latin club.
When people ask me, “What type of exercise do you do?” I always say Zumba. Often, I get a questionable/horrified stare, and I always clarify it. I say, “It’s not scary”. I tell them, this is Zumba, a fast-paced, aerobic, Latin-dance-inspired workout that’s said to be intense and fun at the same time. I think the most common cause for people putting a break to their exercise is boredom and lack of time. Zumba has the ability to solve both these problems by offering a complete body workout in just a single session, making exercise fun. The classes are quite exciting, minimized to 35 people per session, the music is lively and up-tempo therefore, time flies quickly.
