Group Dance Lesson FAQ’s

Group Dancing Lesson Frequently Asked Questions:

1.) What are the differences between the Summer Classes and the 4 Week Group Courses?

Our 4 week group dance courses are “progressive” meaning that the class material builds from week to week with the same pre-enrolled group of people. Classes are held once a week on a given day and time.

Our summer dance classes are drop-in only meaning you can come when it fits into your summer schedule. Pre-enrollment is not required so you will have the flexibility to come when you like.

2.) If we come as a couple, do we have to rotate partners?

For couples who do not wish to rotate dance partners, you have the option to stay together. Please know that we strongly encourage rotating partners as doing so greatly improves your lead and follow.

3.) Do I need to find a partner before I register myself?

No. We strive to even out the leaders and followers in each class. Feel free to come without a partner knowing that we will be rotating partners and you will have a chance to dance with a variety of people.

If you do find a partner after you enroll, but before the start date of the 4 week class, we will adjust your rates accordingly. Please contact us PRIOR to enrolling your partner online so that we may apply a discount to your online account.

4.) What should I/ we wear?

Comfortable clothing is recommended as well as shoes with either leather or suede soles for easy movement on the dance floor. Hip Hop dancers may come in appropriate garb including sneakers and gym attire. Country dancers may wear boots to class.

Dance shoes are available for purchase here at Dance FX Studios. Please ask a staff member for details and sizes.

5.) My friends want to join me, but they don’t take lessons at Dance FX. Can I invite them anyway?

Absolutely! All of Dance FX Studios’ classes are open to the public. Feel free to forward this information to anyone that you think may be interested in our dance courses.

6.) If I/ we came to a previous dance course, will we learn new and different moves from month to month?

Yes! You will learn new moves in our courses from month to month minus the very basic steps that everyone needs to know.

7.) Can I sign up for more than one course in the same month?

Yes! Tons of people are enrolling in more than one course. They are learning several dances, meeting even more new people and having twice the fun!

8.) How do I know if I’m ready for an intermediate level class?

Generally, you will be ready for an intermediate level class after attending a minimum of 2-3 beginner courses. Please ask your instructor their professional opinion if you need further assistance.

9.) Am I guaranteed a dance partner if I sign up by myself?

We strive to enroll an even amount of leaders and followers prior to the start of each of the partner dance classes. However, because we cannot control whether or not someone shows up for their classes, we cannot guarantee that every person will have a partner throughout the entire class. We do rotate partners frequently throughout the class so that each person dances approximately the same amount of time.

10. How long is each class?

Classes are 60 minutes in length including a warm-up and review period at the beginning and the end of each class.
